Despite the fact that it was produced in Japan, the daily vividly reported on the immediate aftermath of the March First Movement both at home and abroad, as well as other Korean independence efforts. On the occasion of the 104th anniversary of the March First Movement, the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History puts on public display for the first time The Bando Shinmun, the only remaining copy in Korea, in order to help people comprehend the significance of the March First Movement. It also discloses the number of students who participated in the movement (24) and the names of Lee Soo-hee and Kim Kyung-hwa, who were sentenced to one year in prison. Provisional Government of Republic Korea(Shanghai) Finance minister Choi Jae-hyung was shot dead- Shot dead by Japanese troops in Nikolsk, Russia 1920.5.19.(No. 49, Page 2) In April 1920, Japanese soldiers raided the city of Nikolsk(Ussuriysk) in Russia, where they shot and killed Choi Jae-hyung in what so-called the April catastrophe. Maeilsinbo, the official gazette of the Japanese Government-General of Korea, did not cover the story at all, and it was reported only by the Dong-A Ilbo and the Dongnip Shinmun in Korea, while the Bando Shinmun was the only Japanese weekly to carry the incident.
